The Year Before The Fair
TPHIS is the year before the Epochal Century 21 Exposition. The economic side of the city is bound to react favorably to the great impact of
two forces. First, the construction program of the Fair, embracing the
appropriations of the City, State, and Nation, and the Exhibit buildings of
private corporations, plus the entertainment structures, will probably
exceed $50 million. Then, there will be a substantial influx of people connected with the building programs and various enterprises incidental to
the Fair, all contributing to the liveliness and welfare of Seattle.
As for other phases of our economy, one item alone makes for a huge
upsurge in the level of activity. The order recently signed for 350 million
dollars worth of Boeing 727's is history-making, and insures a continuance
of high employment at the Boeing Plant. Though Seattle has been labelled
a one-industry city (which is only partially true), it is interesting to note
that Boeing is constantly concerned and active in diversifying its own
spheres of work-plans.
Surveying the entire municipal canvass, it appears certain that regardless of National conditions, the year before the Fair in Seattle will witness
a brisk movement of all those forces which go to make up a prosperous
city.
