Title	Painting in foyer of Playhouse

Description	“White Umber,” by Margaret Tomkins, hanging in the lobby of the Playhouse, Century 21 Exposition (Seattle World’s Fair). “The contributor of the painting is Manfred Selig, operator of a clothing store, who has given many contemporary works from his collection to the city. He offered to purchase Margaret Tomkins’ large abstract oil, ‘White Umber,’ at a cost of $800, and give it to the Seattle Center if architects would accept it for the Playhouse. Miss Tomkins’ painting won an award of merit at the Northwest Annual last fall. Acceptance of the gift was recommended by Dr. Richard E. Fuller of the Seattle Art Museum and Paul Kirk, Playhouse architect. It will be hung at balcony level at the east end of the lobby.” (Louis R. Guzzo, Seattle Times, January 19, 1962, p. 13.)
