The cow is a walking food factory, equipped with a series of four stomachs
which convert grasses and grains into milk. The cow is the most useful
of all farm animals. Dairying is the largest and oldest of all farm enter- Jtjr
prises. The U.S. averages one producing cow for each 10 persons.
While processed into such varied products as ice cream, cheese ^r
and butter, half of all milk produced is consumed as a y
7\ beverage. Before reaching the consumer, all fluid
milk and powdered milk go through certain
processing steps which are outlined on the next disc.
