FACT SHEET
CIVIC CEHT1H BOID ISSUE P10GMM
Question 1 - Can a top-quality concert-convention hall be built within the
shell of the present auditorium?
- Unquestionably yes. There is ample space within the shell
of the building for a 3000-seat, sloped floor, air-conditioned
theater, acoustically correct, within entirely new walls and
ceiling. All new seating, carpeting, lighting, decoration
and finishes will provide a completely modern and beautiful
theater with excellent auxiliary rooms for meetings and
rehearsals, and other such community uses. It should be
possible to complete construction in less time than would be
required for a separate structure.
Question, 2 - How large a stage can be placed in the new concert hall?
- The stage depth can be increased from kZ to 62 ft. with
expanded stage house which will accommodate the largest of
productions, including opera, ballet, musical comedy, combined
symphony and chorus productions* This improved stage will
provide for Seattle one of the finest theaters on this continent
(see diagram enclosed).
Question 3 - What provision will be made for athletic events, some of which
now use the Civic Auditorium?'
- The Civic Auditorium has been something less than an ideal
•'home'1 for major sports events. It has been necessary to
handle a large amount of portable seating and for some
events many of the seats in the balcony provide only a partial
view of the floor* It is proposed that the Arena now be
developed as the cityfs major athletic plant, since it is far
better suited for such uses than the main floor of the Auditorium,
Question 4 - Specifically, what about basketball games in the Arena?
- With a- basketball floor of improved design, an effective insulating
material to cover the ice surface, added heating units, and
