Incorporated as a city of the third class. Located at the
head of Salmon Bay, adjoining the northern boundary of Seattle, on a plateau gently sloping to the water. The town
was first platted a little over four years ago, and .owing to its
excellent location and shipping facilities has become quite a
manufacturing centre, with a population of about 2,600. It
possesses a fine deep-water harbor, Salmon Bay being the j
mouth of the proposed ship canal connecting Lake Washington with the Sound. The Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern
Railway passes along the water front and the Great Northern
Railway through the western end of the town. The town is ^ •
well laid out, with graded and planked streets and good busi- § *—
ness blocks. It is provided with an efficient fire department, 0m
electric light plant, water works, etc. Among its principal O ^
industries are seven shingle and saw mills, sash and door c ™—
factory, steel and iron works, ship yards, boiler works, a ^^
savings bank, dry goods and general merchandise stores, etc. - "j?
There are also two school houses and seven churches. ^
