The Seattle Historical Photograph Collection contains more than 1,000 images that illuminate the early history of Seattle. This segment of over 200 photographs contains some of the earliest images in the collection. These images were taken by the pioneering photographers of their time and depict Seattle scenes and people from before, during and after Seattle's Great Fire in 1889. Waterfront photographs document Seattle's long history as an important West Coast seaport. Early images of churches, buildings, stores, views, schools and more provide a searchable way to see Seattle from its beginning and follow its development. Special Collections staff are adding to the digital collection as materials are digitized.
